April 2 is a special day at Our Human Family!
April 2019. Our Human Family was launched as a burgeoning publication on Medium with all of five Followers.
April 2020. Our plucky editorial team and writers, published Fieldnotes on Allyship: Achieving Equality Together and two editions of OHF Magazine. A few weeks after the onslaught of the Covid-19 pandemic, Our Human Family was successfully registered as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization with the IRS and the State of Florida, and shortly afterward we elected our Board of Directors.
April 2021. We ceased publishing on Medium due to a host of practices that were reprehensible and detrimental to the OHF brand and publication. The Our Human Family newsletter was then rebranded and launched as OHF Weekly, using a subscription-based model.
Given Covid-19’s impact and economic concerns, we switched to a donation-based business model. And in the fall of 2021, we held our first successful Giving Tuesday fundraiser to which many of you contributed. This speaks volumes about your commitment to our mission.
A core group of editors, writers, and poets who believe in our mission regularly donate their time and talents to the publication in the form of the articles you read. Without these dedicated and talented people, OHF Weekly simply - would - not - exist.
April 2022. Three years after the initial launch of that spirited little publication, thanks to the creative support of our editors, writers, and poets, the leadership of our Board of Directors, and your readership and tax-deductible financial contributions we’ve been able to keep the lights on and further our mission to facilitate meaningful conversation on racism and allyship in bringing about a more racially equitable society.

There’s no way we could have done it without all of you.
Keep believing. Keep working. We can’t give up. Our ancestors didn’t quit. They worked too hard for any of us to entertain the thought of quitting. And our descendants are counting on us. Stay the course. Change is possible. Now who’s up for cake?
